African Penguin

Spheniscus demersus

Critically Endangered

The African Penguin is a flightless seabird of coastal islands and waters of South Africa and Namibia. It swims with powerful flipper-like wings, feeds mainly on fish, krill, or squid, and comes ashore or onto ice to breed in colonies. It faces an extremely high extinction risk, so every remaining population and breeding site is important.
