Bahia Spinetail

Synallaxis cinerea

Near Threatened

The Bahia Spinetail is a spinetail of scrub and undergrowth in Brazil. A small, often rufous-toned bird, it skulks through dense undergrowth and tangles gleaning insects, its tail frequently held cocked. Classified as Near Threatened, it is threatened mainly by the loss and fragmentation of its habitat. Fun fact: Many members of this family build extraordinary nests, from mud ovens to huge stick castles and tunnels dug in earth banks.
