Black-bellied Gnateater

Conopophaga melanogaster

Least Concern

The Black-bellied Gnateater is a plump understorey bird of southwestern Amazonian forests in Brazil, Bolivia, and Peru. The male is grey with a black belly and a silvery stripe behind the eye, and like other gnateaters it perches low and pounces on insects. Fun fact: Male gnateaters have a tuft of silvery feathers behind the eye that they can flare during display.
