Black-breasted Puffleg

Eriocnemis nigrivestis

Endangered

The Black-breasted Puffleg is a nectar-feeding hummingbird of the Andean highlands of western South America. It also takes tiny insects and spiders for protein, using fast hovering flight, rapid wingbeats, and a long bill to work flowers and defend feeding areas. It faces serious conservation pressure, usually from habitat loss, fragmentation, or a very small range.
