Black-crowned Antpitta

Pittasoma michleri

Least Concern

The Black-crowned Antpitta is a large, ground-dwelling gnateater of humid foothill forests from Costa Rica and Panama into northwestern Colombia. Boldly scalloped black and buff with long pink legs, it hops on the forest floor searching for insects, sometimes following army-ant swarms. Fun fact: Despite its antpitta name and shape, it belongs to the gnateater family, not the true antpittas.
