Brown-banded Antpitta
Grallaria milleri
VulnerableThe Brown-banded Antpitta is an antpitta of humid forests in Colombia. A plump, almost tailless bird with long legs, it hops across the shaded forest floor and low understorey, pausing upright to search the leaf litter for insects, worms, and other small prey. Classified as Vulnerable, it is threatened mainly by the clearing and fragmentation of its forest habitat. Fun fact: Antpittas are famous for their ventriloquial voices, which makes these round, long-legged birds far easier to hear than to see.
