The Campo Miner is a miner of open arid country in Brazil. A ground bird of bare, arid country, it runs and probes the soil for insects and nests in burrows. Classified as Vulnerable, it is threatened mainly by the loss and fragmentation of its habitat. Fun fact: The family is named for the horneros, which build sturdy oven-shaped nests out of mud.
