Chestnut-belted Gnateater

Conopophaga aurita

Least Concern

The Chestnut-belted Gnateater is a widespread bird of lowland Amazonian forest. Males show a black-and-chestnut breast band and the family's silvery post-eye tuft, and the species sticks to dense understorey. Fun fact: Gnateaters are named for their diet, but they actually eat a wide range of insects and other small invertebrates, not just gnats.
