Cryptic Treehunter

Cichlocolaptes mazarbarnetti

Extinct

The Cryptic Treehunter is a treehunter of humid montane forests in Brazil. It clambers through dense understorey and foliage, probing moss and leaf clusters for insects. It is now considered extinct, with no reliable recent records, following the loss of its forest habitat. Fun fact: The family is named for the horneros, which build sturdy oven-shaped nests out of mud.
