Cundinamarca Antpitta
Grallaria kaestneri
EndangeredThe Cundinamarca Antpitta is an antpitta of humid forests in Colombia. A plump, almost tailless bird with long legs, it hops across the shaded forest floor and low understorey, pausing upright to search the leaf litter for insects, worms, and other small prey. Classified as Endangered, it is threatened mainly by the clearing and fragmentation of its forest habitat. Fun fact: Several antpittas have been coaxed into the open at forest feeding stations, where they come for earthworms.
