Ecuadorian Piedtail

Phlogophilus hemileucurus

Least Concern

The Ecuadorian Piedtail is a nectar-feeding hummingbird of Ecuador and adjacent Andean foothills. It also takes tiny insects and spiders for protein, using fast hovering flight, rapid wingbeats, and a long bill to work flowers and defend feeding areas. It is currently not considered globally threatened, though healthy native vegetation and flowering plants remain important.
