Fiordland Penguin

Eudyptes pachyrhynchus

Near Threatened

The Fiordland Penguin is a flightless seabird of rainy southwest New Zealand and Stewart Island coasts. It swims with powerful flipper-like wings, feeds mainly on fish, krill, or squid, and comes ashore or onto ice to breed in colonies. It is not yet globally threatened, but declines or habitat pressure mean it needs close watching.
