Fringe-backed Fire-eye

Pyriglena atra

Near Threatened

The Fringe-backed Fire-eye is a fire-eye of humid forests in Brazil. It regularly attends army-ant swarms, seizing insects and other small creatures that flee the advancing ants. Classified as Near Threatened, it is threatened mainly by the clearing and fragmentation of its forest habitat. Fun fact: It is a specialist ant-follower, depending on roving army-ant swarms to flush the prey it eats.
