Green Broadbill

Calyptomena viridis

Near Threatened

The Green Broadbill is a jewel-like, entirely bright green bird of lowland and foothill rainforest in the Malay Peninsula, Sumatra, and Borneo. Its vivid plumage, rounded shape, and a small bill almost hidden by feathers make it superbly camouflaged among leaves, where it feeds mainly on figs and other fruit. Fun fact: Despite its glowing colour it can be remarkably hard to see, vanishing against the green canopy as Sundaland's lowland forests are cleared.
