The Hamerkop is a distinctive wetland bird of wetlands, rivers, and shallow waters across sub-Saharan Africa, Madagascar, and southwestern Arabia. It feeds around shallow water on frogs, fish, insects, and other small prey, and is famous for building enormous domed stick nests. It is currently assessed as Least Concern, though healthy habitat and secure nesting or foraging sites still matter locally.
