The Java Sparrow is a small seed-eating finch of Java and nearby Indonesian islands. It moves through grasses, reeds, scrub, farmland, or open woodland in pairs and flocks, taking grass seeds and small insects. Many estrildids build domed grass nests and give soft contact calls.
