Juan Fernandez Firecrown

Sephanoides fernandensis

Critically Endangered

The Juan Fernandez Firecrown is a nectar-feeding hummingbird of the Juan Fernandez Islands off Chile. It also takes tiny insects and spiders for protein, using fast hovering flight, rapid wingbeats, and a long bill to work flowers and defend feeding areas. It is at very high risk, so remaining habitat and known sites are especially important.
