Lesser Rhea

Rhea pennata

Least Concern

The Lesser Rhea, also called Darwin's Rhea, is a smaller rhea of Patagonia and the high Andean Altiplano. It lives in open grassland, scrub, and marshy habitats, with spotted brown-and-white plumage that blends into dry steppe and upland country. Fun fact: Lesser Rheas can run very fast and often zigzag with wings partly raised when escaping danger.
