Military Macaw

Ara militaris

Vulnerable

The Military Macaw is a large, long-tailed parrot that travels in pairs or noisy flocks, feeding on palm nuts, seeds, fruit, and mineral-rich clay licks in Mexico and Central America. It usually nests in tree cavities or cliff holes and may make local movements as food trees fruit or flower. Fun fact: many parrots use strong hooked bills and zygodactyl feet together like a climbing-and-feeding toolkit.
