Northern Cassowary

Casuarius unappendiculatus

Least Concern

The Northern Cassowary is a large flightless bird of northern New Guinea's lowland rainforests and coastal swamp forests. It has a blue face, bright neck colors, a casque, and a single hanging wattle that helps distinguish it from the southern species. Fun fact: Cassowaries can swallow large fruits whole and help move rainforest seeds through the forest.
