Oilbird

Oilbird

Steatornis caripensis

Least Concern

The Oilbird is the only nocturnal flying fruit-eating bird and the sole living member of its family. It nests colonially in caves, navigates with audible echolocation clicks, and flies at night to feed on oil palm and laurel fruits. Its population is stable enough for Least Concern, though cave colonies and surrounding fruiting forests remain important.
