The Plate-billed Mountain-Toucan is a large-billed forest bird of Choco forests of western Colombia and northwestern Ecuador. It feeds mostly on fruit but also takes insects, eggs, and small vertebrates, and it nests in tree cavities. It is not yet globally threatened, but declines, restricted range, or habitat pressure mean it needs watching.
