The Purplish Jacamar is a slim, long-billed jacamar of western Amazonian forests of Peru, Colombia, Ecuador, and Brazil. It usually watches from exposed forest-edge or riverbank perches, then darts out to catch flying insects such as butterflies, moths, bees, and dragonflies, often returning to the same perch. It is currently assessed as Least Concern, though healthy forest edges, river corridors, and nesting banks remain important locally.
