Rufous-tailed Jacamar

Rufous-tailed Jacamar

Galbula ruficauda

Least Concern

The Rufous-tailed Jacamar is a slim, long-billed jacamar of forest edges and open woodland from Mexico through Central America to northern South America. It usually watches from exposed forest-edge or riverbank perches, then darts out to catch flying insects such as butterflies, moths, bees, and dragonflies, often returning to the same perch. It is currently assessed as Least Concern, though healthy forest edges, river corridors, and nesting banks remain important locally.
