Russet-mantled Softtail

Cranioleuca berlepschi

Near Threatened

The Russet-mantled Softtail is a softtail of humid undergrowth in Peru. It keeps low in dense, often damp vegetation, gleaning insects from foliage and stems. Classified as Near Threatened, it is threatened mainly by the loss and fragmentation of its habitat. Fun fact: The family is named for the horneros, which build sturdy oven-shaped nests out of mud.
