A small, dark, skulking bird, it scurries mouse-like through dense undergrowth and bamboo with its tail often cocked, staying hidden as it searches near the ground for insects. Fun fact: The name tapaculo refers to the habit of cocking the tail, and these birds are notoriously hard to glimpse in their tangled habitat.
