Schlegel's Asity

Philepitta schlegeli

Near Threatened

Schlegel's Asity is a scarce fruit-eating bird of the dry deciduous forests of western and northwestern Madagascar. The breeding male is black and yellow with a turquoise eye wattle, and the species depends on patches of forest that are shrinking through clearance and fire. Fun fact: It is far less known than its rainforest cousin, with much of its life history still poorly documented.
