Somali Ostrich

Struthio molybdophanes

Vulnerable

The Somali Ostrich is a large flightless bird of the Horn of Africa, usually found in arid grasslands, scrub, and semi-desert. It has bluish-gray skin, especially on the neck and legs, and males show bold black-and-white plumage during the breeding season. Fun fact: Unlike flying birds with a keeled breastbone, ostriches have a flat breastbone suited to a running lifestyle.
