Sooty Barbet

Caloramphus hayii

Near Threatened

The Sooty Barbet is a stout-billed canopy bird of Malay Peninsula, Sumatra, and nearby Sundaland forests. It feeds heavily on figs and other fruit, also taking insects, and its ringing calls often reveal it before it is seen among leaves. Pairs nest in tree cavities that they excavate or reuse.
