Southern Screamer

Chauna torquata

Least Concern

The Southern Screamer is a bulky waterbird of marshes, flooded grasslands, lagoons, and wetland edges in southern South America. It has grey plumage, a dark collar at the base of the neck, pinkish legs, and sharp wing spurs used in territorial disputes. Fun fact: Southern Screamers are sometimes kept as guard birds because their calls are extremely loud and far-carrying.
