Spillmann's Tapaculo

Scytalopus spillmanni

Least Concern

The Spillmann's Tapaculo is a tapaculo of dense undergrowth in Colombia and Ecuador. A small, dark, skulking bird, it scurries mouse-like through dense undergrowth and bamboo with its tail often cocked, staying hidden as it searches near the ground for insects. Fun fact: Many tapaculos are told apart mainly by voice, as different species can look almost identical in the gloom of the undergrowth.
