Spiny-faced Antshrike
Xenornis setifrons
Near ThreatenedThe Spiny-faced Antshrike is an antshrike of humid forests in Panama and Colombia. A robust antbird with a stout, hooked bill, it gleans insects and other small prey from foliage and vine tangles in the forest understorey. Classified as Near Threatened, it is threatened mainly by the clearing and fragmentation of its forest habitat. Fun fact: Antshrikes are named for their shrike-like hooked bills, used to grab and subdue insect prey.
