The Stewart Island Shag is a fish-eating waterbird of Stewart Island and southern New Zealand. It dives from the surface to chase fish and aquatic prey, then often rests upright on rocks, posts, banks, or trees with wings held out to dry. Colonies usually form near productive coasts, lakes, rivers, or wetlands.
