Stresemann's Bristlefront
Merulaxis stresemanni
Critically EndangeredThe Stresemann's Bristlefront is a tapaculo of dense undergrowth in Brazil. A small, dark, skulking bird, it scurries mouse-like through dense undergrowth and bamboo with its tail often cocked, staying hidden as it searches near the ground for insects. Classified as Critically Endangered, it is threatened mainly by the clearing and fragmentation of its forest habitat. Fun fact: Tapaculos are weak fliers that prefer to run and hop through dense cover rather than take wing.
