Thicket Antpitta

Myrmothera dives

Least Concern

The Thicket Antpitta is an antpitta of humid forests in Costa Rica, Colombia, and Panama. A plump, almost tailless bird with long legs, it hops across the shaded forest floor and low understorey, pausing upright to search the leaf litter for insects, worms, and other small prey. Fun fact: Despite their name and shape, antpittas are not closely related to the true pittas of the Old World.
