Variable Antshrike

Thamnophilus caerulescens

Least Concern

The Variable Antshrike is an antshrike of humid forests in Brazil, Argentina, and UY. A robust antbird with a stout, hooked bill, it gleans insects and other small prey from foliage and vine tangles in the forest understorey. Fun fact: Antshrikes are named for their shrike-like hooked bills, used to grab and subdue insect prey.
