Velvet Asity
Philepitta castanea
Least ConcernThe Velvet Asity is a small, plump fruit-eater of the eastern rainforests of Madagascar. Breeding males are velvety black with a bright green-and-blue wattle arching over each eye, while females are dull olive-green. Fun fact: The vivid eye wattle is not coloured by pigment but by the way tiny structures in the skin scatter light.
