White-crowned Tapaculo

Scytalopus atratus

Least Concern

The White-crowned Tapaculo is a tapaculo of dense undergrowth in Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru. A small, dark, skulking bird, it scurries mouse-like through dense undergrowth and bamboo with its tail often cocked, staying hidden as it searches near the ground for insects. Fun fact: Tapaculos are weak fliers that prefer to run and hop through dense cover rather than take wing.
