Yellow-bellied Sunbird-Asity

Neodrepanis hypoxantha

Vulnerable

The Yellow-bellied Sunbird-Asity is a rare, tiny bird of high-altitude rainforest in eastern Madagascar. The breeding male is greenish above with a yellow belly and a vivid blue eye wattle, and it feeds on nectar and small insects in mossy montane forest. Fun fact: Once feared extinct, it was rediscovered in the 1990s and remains Vulnerable because its mountain forest home is shrinking.
