Extinct

The Alagoas Curassow is a large, mostly forest-dwelling cracid of historical Atlantic Forest range in Alagoas and Pernambuco, Brazil; surviving birds are managed in captivity and reintroduction programs. It spends much of its time walking quietly on the forest floor, where it feeds on fallen fruit, seeds, and small invertebrates. Its conservation story is important, with habitat loss and hunting pressure making protected forest especially valuable.
