Biak Megapode

Megapodius geelvinkianus

Near Threatened

The Biak Megapode is an Indonesian island scrubfowl restricted to Biak, Numfor, and nearby islands in West Papua. It lives in lowland forest and shrubland and is vulnerable to habitat loss across its small range. Fun fact: It was long treated by some authorities as part of other scrubfowl species before being increasingly recognized as distinct.
