Crested Guan

Penelope purpurascens

Near Threatened

The Crested Guan is an arboreal cracid of tropical forest from southern Mexico through Central America to northwestern South America. It usually keeps to forest canopy and edges, feeding heavily on fruit and helping move seeds through tropical and subtropical forests. Although still present across parts of its range, habitat loss and hunting pressure mean its populations need close watching.
