East Brazilian Chachalaca

Ortalis araucuan

Least Concern

The East Brazilian Chachalaca is a noisy, social cracid of eastern Brazilian forest edge, scrub, and second growth. It moves through thickets, forest edges, and trees in pairs or small groups, feeding mainly on fruit, flowers, leaves, and other plant material. It remains comparatively widespread, but healthy forest and woodland still matter for keeping local populations secure.
