Great Curassow

Crax rubra

Vulnerable

The Great Curassow is a large, mostly forest-dwelling cracid of lowland forests from southern Mexico through Central America to northwestern South America. It spends much of its time walking quietly on the forest floor, where it feeds on fallen fruit, seeds, and small invertebrates. Its conservation story is important, with habitat loss and hunting pressure making protected forest especially valuable.
