Helmeted Curassow

Pauxi pauxi

Vulnerable

The Helmeted Curassow is a large, mostly forest-dwelling cracid of cloud forests of the Colombian and Venezuelan Andes. It spends much of its time walking quietly on the forest floor, where it feeds on fallen fruit, seeds, and small invertebrates. Its conservation story is important, with habitat loss and hunting pressure making protected forest especially valuable.
