Highland Guan

Penelopina nigra

Vulnerable

The Highland Guan is an arboreal cracid of highland cloud forests from southern Mexico through Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, and Nicaragua. It usually keeps to forest canopy and edges, feeding heavily on fruit and helping move seeds through tropical and subtropical forests. Its conservation story is important, with habitat loss and hunting pressure making protected forest especially valuable.
