New Guinea Megapode

Megapodius decollatus

Least Concern

The New Guinea Megapode is a scrubfowl of New Guinea, especially the northern half of the island. It lives in lowland and montane forest and uses mound or warm-soil nesting strategies typical of megapodes. Fun fact: Island scrubfowl are strong enough flyers to colonize islands despite spending much of their lives on the ground.
