The Rufous-headed Chachalaca is a noisy, social cracid of dry and semi-humid forest of western Ecuador and northwestern Peru. It moves through thickets, forest edges, and trees in pairs or small groups, feeding mainly on fruit, flowers, leaves, and other plant material. Its conservation story is important, with habitat loss and hunting pressure making protected forest especially valuable.
