Scaled Chachalaca

Ortalis squamata

Least Concern

The Scaled Chachalaca is a noisy, social cracid of Atlantic Forest and wooded edges of southeastern Brazil. It moves through thickets, forest edges, and trees in pairs or small groups, feeding mainly on fruit, flowers, leaves, and other plant material. It remains comparatively widespread, but healthy forest and woodland still matter for keeping local populations secure.
