Variable Chachalaca

Ortalis motmot

Least Concern

The Variable Chachalaca is a noisy, social cracid of forest edges and riverine woodland of the Guianas and northern Amazonia. It moves through thickets, forest edges, and trees in pairs or small groups, feeding mainly on fruit, flowers, leaves, and other plant material. It remains comparatively widespread, but healthy forest and woodland still matter for keeping local populations secure.
